Installation of methane gas detector: the guide

The correct installation of the gas detector is essential for its operation and its speed of intervention. In fact, the position varies based on the gas and must be carefully evaluated to avoid false alarms. Let's see together some tips for optimal installation.

Methane gas detector: 4 steps to install it

1.  LPG, methane or carbon monoxide : the choice of gas

The type of gas to be detected is fundamental for the installation of a detector. For 'heavy' gases, such as  LPG , it is recommended to install the detector low down (about 30 cm from the floor), while for 'light' gases, such as  methane  or the  carbon monoxide , high up (about 30 cm from the ceiling).

2.  Positions to avoid

Some positions may  compromise the correct functioning of the detector . Let's see together where  DO NOT  the device must be installed:

  • in one  enclosed space  (e.g., in a closet or behind a curtain);
  • directly over a sink;
  • near a door or window;
  • near an air extractor;
  • in an area where the temperature may fall below -10°C or exceed +40°C;
  • in a place where dirt and dust can block the sensor;
  • in a damp room.

3. Carry out the wiring

Seitron gas detectors are powered by 230V to ensure  maximum security . For this reason, once the suitable position in the house has been identified, following the previous indications, it is necessary to guarantee the presence of the mains voltage cables for commissioning the device.

4.  Substances to avoid in the vicinity of the gas detector

Below we provide a list of the following substances whose use in the immediate vicinity of the appliance is to be avoided, otherwise it will malfunction:

  • alcohol, petrol;
  • solvents and thinners;
  • glues, colors and silicone products;
  • cleaning detergents;
  • perfumes;
  • sprays in general.

How to clean a methane gas detector

Given the sensitivity of the sensor to detergents, to avoid compromising the functioning of the detector, it is best to use only a   cloth moistened with water .
